Every day, unfortunate things like accidents, conditions resulting from illnesses, surgeries, and complications arising from trauma or aging, affect people young and old, rich and poor, and healthy and not so healthy—bringing new challenges into their lives.
At any time, something could happen that suddenly prevents us from being physically able to lead a normal life.
That’s why we would like to make you aware of the good physical therapy work being done by Sally Newman, PT and her staff at Sports Rehabilitation Consultants Physical Therapy in Medina. Sally, who was once an employee in the business, became a partner and went on to become the sole proprietor.
She has grown the business to include multiple locations and her passion for “giving back to the community” has taken her to area schools and businesses where she provides community education on various topics including balance and fall prevention, and proper body mechanics that help prevent the injuries that create the need for PT services.
Sports Rehabilitation Consultants, which Sally refers to as SRC, is widely known as the first choice for physical therapy, thanks to a business model that reminds you of the days when health care was personal, family oriented—and effective.
“We can do a free screening to assess the physical problems and needs of our patients. We do a comprehensive assessment of each patient’s situation and then develop a custom treatment plan that will return his or her life to normal function in the least amount of time. Each patient has a different goal, but we strive for maximum strength, movement and function for everyone we serve,” she explains.
The goal for SRC patients is to try and bring them to a level of function that’s higher than before they were injured. The SRC staff also helps to educate and encourage patients to maintain a healthier lifestyle following therapy with specific at-home exercise techniques.
“I wasn’t able to do this yesterday” and “This shoulder hurt with slight movement and now it’s as good as ever” are the kinds of comments from grateful patients that keep Sally’s staff motivated and passionate about their work.
The staff includes Kerri Kalman, senior therapist; Kim Sopata, PTA; Erica Rhodes, PT; Christine Coniglio, patient care coordinator; Shelley Jackson, bookkeeper; and Shari Barnes lead secretary extraordinaire. All agree their “feel like family” atmosphere and “make it fun” attitude are what keep their patients referring so many of their friends and family to SRC.
“It’s a great place to work because of the bonds we develop as we perform treatments that return people to maximum physical function. Many of our patients are actually sad when their treatment is over because they have come to enjoy our visits together,” Kerri relates.
“Many of our patient referrals are sent to us by physicians, coaches and area industries because of the advanced techniques and technology we have made a part of our practice,” Sally says. “We can utilize light therapy that involves both infrared and low-level laser light to help speed healing in new injuries. Based on each patient’s injury or surgical procedure a personalized treatment approach may include manual techniques, exercise or other modalities such as electrical stimulation, ultrasound and iontophoresis.”
“We also handle a lot of Workers’ Compensation cases. With our KEY system (a functional capacity assessment test) we take a scientific, rather than an intuitive, approach to work-related injuries. Working with a database of over 150,000 worker evaluations, SRC is able to use KEY to accurately provide a safe return to work ability,” Kerri adds.
“At SRC, quality patient care is not only our priority, it is our philosophy, and we provide each patient with as much time with the therapists as they need,” Sally assures.
She and her staff also strive to keep their treatment affordable and convenient for their patients by offering evening hours, Monday through Thursday until 7:30 or 8:30 p.m. “We prefer to work on an appointment basis, but also try to accommodate walk-ins. Also, if we see someone arrive at our facility who has problems getting around, we take the time to help them inside. We have lower treatment fees than many area hospitals and personally handle our client’s insurance claims,” she shares.
Patients now have direct access to see a physical therapist and do not need a doctor’s referral to work with SRC. “We focus on trying to assess new patients the same day or as soon as possible so they can begin treatment which ultimately helps speed their recovery time,” Sally beams.
