The Stage Door concert series presented by E.J. Thomas Hall at the University of Akron, began in 2008 and continues to impress audiences with high caliber talent performing in an intimate setting on the E.J. stage.

Enter through the Blue Door on Hill Street and arrive directly on stage where you’ll find it transformed into a jazz club setting with tables, chairs and high tops placed around a raised stage area. Artists are up close and personal, allowing the audience a unique opportunity to become part of the pulse and energy of the performance.  The evening is designed to be interactive and very social and guests are encouraged to arrive early and mingle, enjoy a cocktail from the cash bar, or indulge in light fare while catching up with friends.

“The positive response from both campus and the community at large proves to us that E.J.’s Stage Door series is not going away anytime soon,” promises Dan Dahl, executive director.  “It’s a rare opportunity for audience members to be able to experience this caliber of talent, in this type of setting, especially for only $10 a ticket.

Every seat is a good one, but don’t wait to purchase, as the shows continue to sell out,” Dan encourages.

If there is a face to the independent neo-soul music movement it is Eric Roberson, appearing February 13th.

Roberson has gathered a reputation as a singer, songwriter and for the past decade has worked with a virtual “who’s who” of adult soul artists.

Come and celebrate Valentine’s Day at the Stage Door on February 14th with jazz pianist Joe Augustine and Trio and enjoy a delicious hot brunch buffet for just $25.

Internationally acclaimed trombonist and band leader Jiggs Whigham joins the UA Jazz Ensemble on April 16th.

Jake Shimabukuro, renowned for his lightning-fast fingers and revolutionary playing technique on the ukulele, will return May 22.

Then a favorite from last season, vocalist, guitarist and songwriter Raul Midon, returns to perform on May 23, blending genre-defying soul, pop, folk and Latin elements which are all present in his soon to be released “Synthesis.”

All seats for the Stage Door concert series are general admission and are priced at just $10* for the general public, and $5* for UA Students.  Tickets may be purchased in person at the E.J. Thomas Hall Ticket Office, or by calling 330-972-7570.  For more information go to UAEvents.com.
*Jazz brunch with Joe Augustine is $25.
