The signs of fall are everywhere. Leaves are turning brilliant shades of orange, red and yellow, jack-o-lanterns make their way onto front porches complete with toothy grins, and moms and dads everywhere start scratching their heads trying to figure out how to keep the kids entertained now that parks, pools and barbeques are no longer options.

The good news is that with Blue Fig’s launch of its Family Nights on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, you’ll only have to find a way to entertain your brood on the other five nights. On Tuesday evenings five different burgers are on special and on Wednesday night—buck, buck—you guessed it, five chicken sandwiches take a dive in price down to just $4.99 each.

But it’s really about the kids.

Blue Fig features nine huge plasma TVs and on Family Nights every one of them will be tuned to cartoons. There will be free, freshly popped popcorn available throughout the evening and every kid will get a chance to win one of three $20 Toys R Us gift certificates—both nights.

“We wanted to make it affordable—and fun—for families to enjoy a night out together,” says Mary, Blue Fig’s longtime manager and cohort in the Family Nights planning details. “Every child aged 12 and under will be given a Blue Fig placemat and crayons to color with while they’re here. But instead of taking their mini works of art home, kids are invited to place them in a box and at the end of the evening, three gift certificate winners will be selected at random.”

Blue Fig plans to keep Family Nights as a permanent part of its fall lineup so there will be lots of chances to win.

Kid-friendly menu choices include selections like mac and cheese, spaghetti, hamburgers, chicken bites and grilled cheese—all for just $4.99. Each meal also includes French fries and a beverage.

On Tuesdays, burgers are just $4.99.

The Wimpy Burger is a “plain ol’ hamburger,” but there’s nothing simple about the 1/3 pound of Angus beef that’s cooked to order—just the way you like it. Other choices include the Blue Burger—smothered with grilled mushrooms and crumbled bleu cheese, the Patty Melt—served on fresh rye bread, the Bacon Cheddar—topped with bacon, cheddar and grilled onions, and the Breakfast Burger, which features a juicy cheeseburger served on top of bacon and two eggs.

“Our breakfast burger is one of the most popular,” Mary smiles.

All hamburgers are served with fries, and extras like cheese, onions and mushrooms are available for an additional charge.

Save a buck, buck or more on Wednesdays. The Cajun chicken sandwich features Blue Fig’s own Cajun spice rub and mozzarella cheese. The Plain Jane is a plain grilled chicken sandwich and the Chicken Melt is served on rye with American, Swiss and grilled onions.

Also try the Bleu Chicken sandwich, which features grilled mushrooms and crumbled bleu cheese. The Buffalo is the only breaded chicken sandwich and boasts a secret recipe marinade and a side of bleu cheese. All chicken sandwiches are just $4.99 and come with fries.

New for fall is Blue Fig’s specialty drink menu that includes delicious martini combinations like the Pumpkin-tini, Pumpkin Pie Martini, Butterscotch Truffle Martini and the Caramel Apple-tini—all for just $5.

Of course, any day is a great day to visit Blue Fig. Breakfast is served starting at 7:00 a.m. and during the dinner hour a different special is available each evening. “We’ve got a great breakfast special for just $2.99 that changes weekly,” Mary adds. Sports fans are treated to Ohio State games on Saturdays and NFL football is shown on Sundays until basketball season claims the airwaves.

Blue Fig is located at 2935 W. Market Street in Fairlawn. Hours are Sunday through Thursday from 7:00 a.m.-11:00 p.m.; Friday and Saturday from 7:00 a.m. to midnight. The bar is open an hour later than the dining room each evening. The phone number is 330-864-6200.
