Medina Community Band Summer Season 07/30/2010 - 07/30/2010

Event/Ticket Information

The Medina Community Band, under the baton of Marcus Neiman, will begin their 151st summer season on Friday, June 4, at 8:30p, on the Uptown Square Gazebo in Medina. Concert will be presented every Friday evening through Friday, July 23, with the exception of Friday, July 2. The band will appear at the Medina Township Flag Day celebration on Monday, June 14, at 7p, Blakslee Park. The annual July 4 program will begin on the square at 8:30p.

Soloists for the opening concert on Friday, June 4 will include cornetist Marcia Nelson-Kline performing Frank Simon’s Willow Echoes and Wadsworth High School graduating senior Jonathan Hill, as vocal soloist, performing a selection from Rodgers and Hammerstein’s South Pacific. The Friday, June 11 concert will feature violinist Sarah Arnold performing Wieniawski’s Polonaise Brilliante, Op. 4. The Friday, June 18 concert will feature Wadsworth band director John Blasko performing Arthur Pryor’s Annie Laurie, for trombone and band. The Friday, June 25 concert will feature clarinetist Catherine Palcza performing John William’s Vicktor’s Theme from the Terminal. The special Sunday, July 4 concert will feature Wadsworth band director Amy McArtor in Claude Bolling’s Baroque and Blue for solo flute and band; mezzo-soprano Denise Milner Howell; North Royalton band director Christopher Burdick performing Trumpeter’s Lullaby by Leroy Anderson; and the Lichtenberg Family Dixieland Band. The Friday, July 9 concert will feature saxophonist Edward Lichtenberg performing Tribute to Rudy Wiedoft and tenor soloist Daniel Doty. Friday, July 16 concert will feature saxophonist Bianca Murphy performing the Ring-Hager Bird and the Saxophone; guest conductor Edward Lichtenberg; and soprano soloist Miki Saito singing selections from Wilson’s The Music Man. Cornetist Laura Bloss will be featured on the Friday, July 23 concert in Herman Bellstedt’s Napoli and mezzo-soprano Denise Milner Howell will appear as featured vocal soloist. The final concert of the season, Friday, July 30 is slated to be a “best of season concert.” For a complete listing of all selections for the season, please visit the community band’s website at http://www.medinacommunityband.org/.

Medina Community Band is sponsored by the Medina Community Band Association composed of members of The Medina Kiwanis Breakfast Club proudly supports the community band. The board of the association consists of Tom Borror, president; Karin Blazer, secretary; Jan and John Oberholtzer, treasurers; and directors Charles Freeman, Cathy King, Don Moore, and Ray Lehman.

Membership is open and there are no dues or auditions; however, members are expected to maintain a regular attendance.  The band rehearses on Wednesday evening from 6:15p until 8p in the band room of the Highland High School (4150 Ridge Road, Medina) during the summer (June through July) and from 7p until 9p (same site) September through the end of May; providing three to four concerts during the fall, winter, and spring months both at home and on the road.  The band also presents their popular summer series every Friday, June through July, in Medina's Uptown Park Gazebo.  Each year the band presents at a holiday season concert, annual "Sousa Style Concert," and the popular "Sousa Concert" at EHOVE Career Center (Milan, OH).
