Here’s how Christian Jomani Salon and Spa is restyling the basics of beauty and health—and making them more affordable.

As owners of a popular hair salon and day spa, Michelle Sickle and Christine Kaderbek know how important it is to stay on top of fashion trends. But they’re also quick to pick up on economic trends and how they impact their customers.

“With this economy, we saw that some of our clients were starting to space out their appointments a little more to save money,” Christine observes.

Realizing that budgets are tightening, she and Michelle, co-owners of Christian Jomani Salon and Spa, in Brunswick, have responded with two new programs to help their customers enjoy the services they deserve—while keeping a close eye on their checkbooks.

Christian Jomani’s “It’s All About You” program lets you custom design your health and beauty program to achieve your goals while staying within your budget, Michelle explains.

“If you come in and say. ‘I am having neck and shoulder issues but I can’t afford a full hour massage,’ we’ll focus just on your neck and shoulders and it will be a 30-minute massage. It will be focused specifically on what you’re looking for to fit your budget,” she says. “All the girls who work on the spa side came up with this idea because they know that even when budgets are tight, people still need body repair massages and skin care. So we want to help to make these treatments more affordable.”

The personalized service includes a no-cost initial consultation with one of Christian Jomani’s professional service provider to develop the perfect plan for you.

Michelle says massage is no longer considered a luxury.

“With today’s lifestyle, with all the stress, it’s not something that our clients should have to give up,” she explains. “A lot of people think the purpose of a massage is just to come in and relax, but it isn’t any more. It’s really an opportunity to come in and work out those sore muscles. We do a lot of sports massages for student athletes, like the football and track teams.”

Therapies at Christian Jomani include chair massage, facial massage, Swedish/relaxation massage, energy therapy, therapeutic massage, sports massage, hot stone massage skin repair facials, teen acne facials and back treatment, detoxifying body wraps and full body waxing.

“It’s a way to feel and look healthy from the inside out,” Michelle says.

Along with the customized massage program, Christine and Michelle recently developed an exclusive CJ Spa Club, a program that combines valuable spa services with discounts on retail products. With a membership for only $99 a month, you can choose from four services each month, including:

Signature spa pedicure with hydrating
paraffin dip.
Signature spa manicure with hydrating
paraffin dip.
Skin repair facial, including a
complimentary skin analysis.
CJ stress-relieving body repair massage.

“You can use one of each of these services wihin the month, or get four massages, or any other combination of four,” explains Christine. “It’s a $175 value. Additional spa services are available to club members at 20-percent off, and club members get 10-percent off all retail purchases and 10-percent off any other salon service.”
And, she notes, memberships are a great gift idea.
The one-time membership fee of $21.95 includes $25 worth of hair care products.
A specialty of Christian-Jomani is wedding parties and special event hair, makeup, facials, manis/pedis and massages. You can even start your bachlorette party at CJ, then head out for a night on the town looking gorgeous.
Along with its keen attention to clients’ needs, what sets Christian Jomani apart from other salons and spas is its down-to-earth atmosphere, Michelle says.

“A lot of people think that when they go to a spa it’s going to be an snobbish atmosphere,” she says. “We’re not like that at all. We’re a very fine salon, but we’re a place where people can come in and always feel welcome and comfortable. We’re friendly, outgoing people who work very well together and have a great time while we’re working. When you come in, be ready to have fun.”

It’s no wonder Christian Jomani was voted the top day spa on Fox 8’s Akron-Canton Hotlist.

The salon took root 10 years ago when Michelle purchased an existing business where Christine worked. Four years later, Christine came on as co-owner.

“Chris came with the salon,” Michelle laughs. “We just got along real well. We still talk a lot together and pray together.”

“And,” adds Christine, “We both married Jims.”

The staff at Christian Jomani consists of three licensed massage therapists, one skin specialist, 10 stylists and three associates.

Christine and Michelle have always placed a strong emphasis on education—both of their staff and of their clients.

“We want our clients to be up-to-date on the newest trends and styles, and we want to make sure they’re able to take care of their own hair at home,” Christine says. “There is nothing worse than seeing one of your own customers at the store and thinking, ‘Who did her hair?’ So we make sure they know how to do it.”
Christian Jomani also specializes in styling wigs for clients with cancer and other medical hair loss.

“We custom design them to fit,” Michelle emphasize. “The wigs are specially made to fit scalps with no hair.”
Both Michelle and Christine have lost family members to cancer; the wigs are their way of helping. They also are active in fundraising for the American Cancer Society, including the annual Relay For Life, as well as a variety of other fundraisers for events and organizations like the Cornerstone of Hope and Juvenile Diabetes.

During October, which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the salon is offering pink hair extensions for $5 each.

At the end of October, the salon will hold its annual “Refer a Friend” drawing for $75 a month in salon and spa services. In the program, whenever you refer a friend to Christian Jomani, your name is entered into the annual drawing.
