Dr. Bryan Regiec of Performance Chiropractic is known throughout the area for his unique approach to chiropractic care. Here’s what we learned when we put six of his patients in a room—for some serious back talk.

I knew something was wrong with me,” says Tim Miranda, a local police officer and patient of Dr. Bryan Regiec, D.C. of Performance Chiropractic. “I had soreness in my neck, headaches, and numbness down my arm. The wife of a fellow officer told me about Dr. Regiec. She was really happy with the results she’d gotten, and with the care she’d received. I couldn’t think of a reason not to come.”

“I didn’t expect the evaluation to be as extensive as it was,” he continues. “Part of it included a detailed explanation about the importance of being willing to make a commitment to my health. He taught me to do exercises at home to augment the office visits and I started feeling better within a couple of weeks. After about three months, I was almost back to my old self. The massage therapist worked on my muscles, too. I still come in every now and then—when I have a flair-up—but it’s because I’ve done something I shouldn’t.”

When Tim’s wife Carol Miranda re-injured herself after having been in the successful care of a chiropractor years earlier, she went to her family doctor. He referred her to a specialist who told her it would be a three-month wait to get in for an appointment. “I went to Dr. Regiec instead,” she shares. “He saw me right away. I figured I didn’t have anything to lose because I still had the appointment with the specialist.”

“I wasn’t sure if I’d like it at first but I do. It’s fun to be able to share success stories with the other patients. Needless to say, I never ended up going to the specialist,” Carol smiles. “My back felt better after just a couple of weeks. After about four months, I didn’t have to come as often.”

And for Carol—as well as the other patients who sat down with us for this cover story—it seems to be Regiec’s genuine depth of caring that is driving his success.

“He tells you how to make adjustments in your life, instead of just giving you an adjustment. I’ll be honest, I used to think chiropractors were quacks. I never believed they could help, but it got to the point that I was willing to try anything,” says Cindy Neal, an employee at Metro Toyota. She’s been a patient of Dr. Regiec’s for about three years and used to suffer from horrific migraine headaches that often rendered her incapable of functioning properly for days at a time. “I used to have to come to work with an ice pack on my head. I was miserable. Now I might get a headache once a month—if that. He even showed me how to adjust my work space so that I sit properly and look at my computer screen from a better angle.”

“We were like, ‘Come on, you can’t feel that good,’” laughs Janet Richards, one of Cindy’s co-workers at Metro. “I have always suffered from lower back pain, but I thought it was just a consequence of old age. Then I had a car accident and couldn’t stand. Cindy told me to call Dr. Regiec and I did—on a Saturday. He happened to be in the office and answered the phone. The office was closed, but he invited me to come right over. I couldn’t believe it. It took a couple of months, but now I feel as good as new. I am completely pain-free.”

“Dr. Regiec is like your friend. We know about his family and have become friends with his assistants and his wife. You can really tell that he loves what he does and is great at it,” she continues. “You go to the dentist for oral check-ups and the eye doctor for your vision; why wouldn’t you get your spine checked by someone who’s an expert at it?”

The entire room nods in agreement and happy chatter erupts as each patient begins to bring forth his or her own fond feelings about the doctor and his personal approach. “We’ll all tell you the same thing,” says Tina Pobus. “He’s wonderful.”

After three back surgeries Tina went to Dr. Regiec with difficulty walking. Her surgeries didn’t work. “I did all the things I was supposed to do,” she remembers. “I saw a therapist and he said my back was okay—even though I knew it wasn’t.”

She found Dr. Regiec after reading about him in Mimi.

“I called him, and after just the second visit I was feeling better,” she says brightly. “I’ve been to a chiropractor before, but I’d lost confidence in the profession. Now I feel very confident. I’ve experienced a tremendous amount of relief. It’s amazing what he can do.”

Jill Hoehn took a little more convincing.

“We all work together,” she laughs while motioning to Cindy and Janet. “Even the day I woke up screaming because my rib had popped out couldn’t make me come. Cindy and Janet had to practically drag me in.”

“We called and made an appointment for her,” Cindy pipes up while Jill shoots her an embarrassed grin.

“I felt better after one treatment,” Jill assures. “I was able to at least return to work. I started regular treatment and haven’t had a problem. I’ve been able to cut back on my acid reflux medication and a benefit to my treatment has been that the headaches I’ve suffered from since I was a kid have vanished.”

And what does Dr. Regiec have to say?

“I think we’re different because we work with the muscles and the bones,” he explains. “We teach our patients appropriate exercises to augment their treatment. I really care about their wellbeing. I want them to get better. If you have pain or other symptoms, meet with me and tell me what’s going on; then we’ll see if we can help you, too. I’ll do an exam, talk with you, and give you an honest opinion.”

He’ll even let you talk back, darling.
