A hot summer for Akron music
When the Akron Art Museum reopens on the corner of High and E. Market St., Downtown@Dusk will host many of the area’s top musicians on Thursday nights starting August 9th.

MAY 17, 2007—Next month, there will be a wealth of outdoor musical performances to enhance a beautiful summer evening. So pack a snack, blanket or telescopic chairs and check out some of the outstanding entertainment that is part of the Akron Performs 2007 summer concert series. Here are just some of the highlights taking place at several venue locations throughout Summit County:
Lock 3, located next to the Akron Civic Theater at 200 S. Main St. in downtown Akron, will host This is My Country! featuring Colin Raye on July 14, and Heart & Soul featuring the superstars of jazz fusion with Roy Ayers, Lonnie Liston Smith, & Wayne Henderson on Aug 11. Friday nights will feature revolving tributes to the sounds of your favorite rock ‘n roll stars including nights dedicated to David Bowie June 22, CSN&Y July 6, The Beatles & George Harrison August 3, Jimi Hendrix August 10, The Rolling Stones August 17, and Bruce Springsteen August 31. On Monday evenings, Hardesty Park at 1615 W. Market St. in the Wallhaven area will be hosting performances from 7-9 p.m. Check out favorites like party band LaFlavour on June 25, reggae master B.E.Mann July 23, and Colin Dussault’s Blues Project August 13. The city’s signature event, Akron Arts Expo, will once again be hosted here July 26-29.
Tuesday evenings visit Firestone Park at 1480 Girard St. and check out Cats on Holiday June 12 or Blue Lunch on July 17.
Wednesday evenings will take you to the Shadyside Park gazebo at the corner of Kenmore and Battles Ave. Eddie & The Edsels will be there June 20 and Nostalgia Gold with Larry Alltop on July 11.
